Twin-roll strip casting(TRSC)technology is one of the near net shape forming processes,which greatly reducing the process flow.However,as a new process,there are many problems to be solved in the process of twin-roll strip casting.One of them is the side seal problem that the quality of the strip is directly affected by the side seal technology.At present,solid side seal is the most commonly used side seal method at this stage,but it has many inevitable defects.Electromagnetic side sealing technology is an ideal method,which uses the electromagnetic field of the super-distance effect and force effect to achieve the no contact side seal which compensate for defects of solid side.But the solid side sealing also has many advantages.This paper presents a new type of electromagnetic side seal structure,that is electromagnetic side sealing + solid side sealing structure.The magnetic field generator was redesigned.This will not only improve the life of the solid side of the sealing plate but also reduce the scope of the role of the electromagnetic field.It combined with advantages of the electromagnetic side sealing and the advantages of solid side to achieve a more reasonable side sealing effect.Based on the theory of Maxwell electromagnetic field and the basic theory of magnetohydrodynamics,this paper deduces the magnetic induction intensity and magnetic pressure formula in the direction of depth of molten pool.Then the two-dimensional finite element model of the scroll coil is established to investigate the influence of current intensity and magnetic field distance on the magnetic flux density and electromagnetic force of molten pool,so as to provide the theoretical basis for the parameter setting of the electromagnetic side seal structure.Then,in order to verify the correctness of the two-dimensional model,the electromagnetic force was used as the research object to carry out solid-state physical simulation experiment.The effect of current and magnetic field on the electromagnetic force is explored from the experimental point of view,the experimental results are close to the simulation results,which verifies the correctness of the two-dimensional model.The effect of temperature on the electromagnetic force was also obtained from the experiment,which was not manifested in the previous low melting point alloy experiment.Finally,based on the above theory,the structural design and selection of the new type of electromagnetic side seal are carried out.The three-dimensional finite element simulation is established by the edge element method,and the feasibility of the new type of electromagnetic side seal structure is verified.But the results show that the electromagnetic pressure distribution needs to be optimized.After the structural optimization,the distribution of electromagnetic pressure trend is closer to the theoretical value,and it can achieve better side sealing effect.
