As a significant part of superabrasive wheels, resin-bonded CBN grinding wheelsare widely applied in the fields of ultra-precision grinding of ferrous metals andhard and brittle materials for their excellent grinding performance. Due to theinsulation characteristics and ultra-high hardness of resin-bonded CBN grindingwheels, it seems to be more difficult for the wheel dressing after a period of grindingwith grinding wheel wear appeared following closely.Firstly, this thesis referrals all the devices and their performance parameters ofthe fiber laser sharpening resin-bonded CBN grinding wheels system.Secondly, following the theoretical calculation of laser power density thresholdof single-pulse ablation of the resin binder, experiments of single-pulse ablating resinbond wheels and the study of pulse overlapping rate of fiber laser ablating resinwheels have been conducted after adapting the threshold to the parameters of the fiberlaser sharpening system. Then, instead of resin-bonded CBN grinding wheels, resin bond wheels havebeen used for conducting the experiment of fiber laser sharpening wheels. Thetechnological parameters optimized and concluded from the experiment are asfollows:speed of grinding wheel is600r/min; two-dimensional electronic platformfeed speed is0.19mm/s; the average power of the fiber laser is20W; pulserepetition frequency is120kHz; the defocus distance is0mm; feeding time is3. Agreat grinding wheel surface topography has been obtained after selecting theabove-mentioned parameters for the fiber laser sharpening the blunted grindingwheel. Finally, the resin-bonded CBN grinding wheel using different sharpening ways—after fiber laser sharpening or mechanical method, has been used for grinding45#steel.The measurement of the surface roughness values of the two cylindrical surfacesof45#steel bar stock grinded by the resin-bonded CBN grinding wheels—after fiberlaser sharpening or mechanical method has been compared, the surface microscopicmorphology of the two grinding workpieces machining by MKC1320tool grindingmachine with the resin-bonded CBN grinding wheel using different sharpening wayshas been measured. The conclusion seems obvious. The surface roughness of45#steelbar stock using the fiber laser sharpening resin-bonded CBN grinding wheel has declined compared with that using mechanical method trimming resin-bonded CBNgrinding wheel. The skin needling in the former workpiece has occurred sparsely withhigh quality surface smoothness. And it meets the requirements production inenterprises.
