Experimental study of trimming employs an acoustic-optical Q-swithched YAG pulse laser to radiate in orthogonal direction and micro-machining burn the densely resin bonded CBN super-abrasive wheels. Due to the thermal-physical and optical differences between bonds and abrasives, optimal pulse power density is selected to remove bonds and protrude abrasives, realize the selective remove, and then achieve the purpose of nicety dressing. This trimming (truing/dressing) method mainly based on hotly melt and vaporization, and don't getting in touch with force, is a quickly speed and high effect way. In addition to its small heat effect, simple craft process, and easy to establish the laser device to realize the automation on the grinding machine. Therefore, it is a prospect way of Laser to trim super-abrasive wheels.We conduct a contrast experiment of high speed or super-high speed grinding's performance with the mechanical trimming and laser trimming CBN super-abrasive wheels, The experiment results show that high speed or super-high speed grinding's temperature scarcely along with the change of orthogonal direction feed and work-piece speed, but decrease with the increase of wheel's speed. The high speed or super-high speed grinding's force has the same variety regulation contrast to the common speed grinding, which can get the explanation from closely empirical formulas. Under the same grinding condition, the grinding force of laser trimming wheel is near to or slightly lower than the mechanical trimming wheel. The work-piece's surface roughness grinded by laser trimming CBN wheel is the same as or slightly lower than the mechanical trimming wheel. The experiment research can be concluded that adopting the high speed grinding compare to common speed grinding is more beneficial to the super-abrasive wheel, which can more develop its excellent grinding performance, the CBN super-abrasive wheel trimmed by an acoustic-optical Q-swithched YAG pulse laser is better than the mechanical trimming wheel.
