More and more attention has been paid to the treament of malodorous gases. In this paper, pulsed corona combined with in situ absorption was proposed to decontaminate waste gases. Both laboratory investigation of removal of CS2and enlargement experiment of removal of TCE by pulsed corona were carried out. The removal of CS2was investigated under oxidizing and reducing atmosphere, respectively. The influences of operation parameters, such as gas relative humidity, diameter of corona wire and the quantityies of discharge wire, on the removal of CS2were investigated.Experimental results showed that CS2could be removed effectively by pulsed corona with a wire-in-tube reactor. With the inclease of input pulse frequency and pulse voltage, the removal of CS2increased. It was found that the removal was higher in Ar gas, compared with that in N2gases. The main product was sulfur in both Ar and N2gases. The presence of hydrogen was conducive for the decomposion of CS2. The main products were CH4and H2S when hydrogen was added. The decomposition of CS2could be promoted when oxygen was added into the gas stream. With the oxygen volume fraction increased from2.0%to8.3%, the removal of CS2rised from92.11%to97.53%, and the main products were CO2, CO, COS, SO2, O3. The relative humidity of gas had significant effect on removal of CS2.The removal of CS2increased greatly with the increase of relative humitily, but it decreased when oxygen was added. When Ca(OH)2was added onto the inner surface of the reactor, the products such as H2S and SO2could be catched by the sorbent of Ca(OH)2.The removal of TCE in a plate-wire-plate reactor was also investigated. When pulse voltage was30kV, the removal was58.4%for a gas residence time of104seconds. It was found that the production of HC1gas was generated during the reaction. With the increase of diameter and number of wire, the removal of TCE increased. When4discharge wires were utilized the removal of TCE reached62.5%with an input pulse voltage of30kV. With the reduction of the distance between discharge wires, the removal of TCE increased.
