With the increasing of human being’s environmental protection consciousness,environment friendly water-soluble acrylic resin plays a more vital role in water-based inkand coatings and some other fields. And a green environmental styrene acrylic resin isattracting more and more attention because of its irreplaceable advanges and it will certainlybe a new field in researching and developing resin. But there are some disadvantages whichrestrain its further usage, such as low adhesion, poor stability, big sour taste and mechanicalproperties etc. In this paper, three modified styrene acrylic resin films with good performancewere synthesized, which can be used in water-based ink.In this paper, the epoxy styrene acrylic resin and the organic silicone styrene acrylicresin were synthesized respectively with GMA and A151as functional monomers by freeradical solution polymerization method, Using TiO2sol and GMCO as modified agents,properties and application in water-based ink were studied about the obtained materials.The optimized synthesis conditions of epoxy styrene acrylic resin were as follows: withethylene glycol methy ether as solvent, BPO as the initiator, after adding method of GMA asthe method of charing material, m(St):m(BA)=1:1, m(AA)=20%m(monomer),m(BPO)=14%m(monomer), m(NMA)=1.5%m(monomer),m(GMA)=7.5%m(monomer), theadd time of monomer droplets for30min, and the reaction temperature of90℃. The epoxystyrene acrylic resin was obtained with a number-average molecular weight of5985, aweight-average molecular weight of13826, the polydispersity of2.31and the solid content of47.46%. By ATR-FTIR test, the result showed that the epoxy group was introducedsuccessfully in the epoxy styrene acrylic resin.The optimized synthesis conditions of organic silicone styrene acrylic resin are asfollows: with isopropyl alcohol as solvent, BPO as the initiator, after adding method of A151as the method of charing material, m(St):m(BA)=1:1, m(AA)=20%m(monomer),m(BPO)=14%m(monomer), m(A151)=5%m(monomer), the add time of monomer dropletsfor30min, and the reaction temperature of90℃. The silicon styrene acrylic resin wasobtained with a number-average molecular weight of4936, a weight-average molecularweight of8615, the polydispersity of1.74and the solid content of53.55%. By ATR-FTIRtest, the result showed that the siloxane was introduced successfully in the organic siliconestyrene acrylic resin.TiO2sol was synthesized by hydrolysis method, and the optimized synthesis conditionsof which were as follows: n(TBT):n(acac):n(ethanol):n(H2O)=1:2:10:200, the hydrolysistemperature of25℃, the pH value of1and hydrochloric acid as catalyst. The TiO2/epoxystyrene acrylic resin film and the TiO2/organic silicone styrene acrylic resin film weresynthesized by modifying epoxy styrene acrylic resin and organic silicone styrene acrylic resin with TiO2sol, by ATR-FTIR, DSC, TG and coating performance tests, the resultsshowed that the modified films were successfully prepared and the thermal stability of themodified films were improved, and the modification of TiO2sol could improve the adhesionof the films and make it having a good coating performance.The GMCO was prepared by modifying the structural of the renewable resources ofcastor oil with maleic anhydride and KH560and contained–Si(OCH3)3groups. By1H NMR,FTIR, GPC tests, the results showed that the GMCO was synthesized. TheGMCO/TiO2/organic silicone styrene acrylic resin film was synthesized via a sol-gel processby modififying the organic silicone styrene acrylic resin with GMCO and TiO2sol, and3-glycidyloxyproplyltrimethoxysilane as a coupling agent. By ATR-FTIR, TG and coatingperformance tests, the results showed that the GMCO/TiO2/organic silicone styrene acrylicresin film was successfully synthesized, and the thermal stability of the modified film wasimproved, and the modification of TiO2sol could improve the adhesion of film, and theintroduction of GMCO could improve the hydrophobic nature and flexibility of film.The water-based ink was prepared with the homemade epoxy styrene acrylic resin asbase material and by adding additives and pigments and so on. The optimized formula of inkwas obtained by investigating the dispersant dosage and cosolvent dosage and P/B ratio onthe performance of ink. And five kinds of water-based ink were prepared, by the conventionalperformance tests of ink, the results showed that the ink modified ink with TiO2sol had anexcellent adhesion and the ink modified ink with TiO2sol and GMCO had an excellentadhesion and good hydrophobic nature, and it will have a wide application prospect.
