In recent years, with the emergence of the world energy crisis and the social attention of the environmental protection, water-based lubricants have drawn more and more attentions. However, pure water can’t meet every day needs due to its poor tribological performance. In this study, two kinds of water-soluble additives, PEG-600DO and BN, are employed in different mass concentrations and ratios. Friction-reducing, anti-wear, rheology, film-forming performances of PEG-600DO-BN aqueous solutions are tested and the mechanism is analyzed. The friction coefficient, wear scar diameter and extreme pressure are tested at different mass concentrations and ratios under different loads and rotate speeds by four-bali tester. The result reveals that PEG-600DO solution has good friction-reducing properties; the extreme pressure is enhanced with BN added compared with PEG-600DO aqueous solution, but it is bad for anti-wear properties.Rheology of test aqueous solution is tested by rotating rheometer. Then get the relation curve between dynamic viscosity and shear rate of different mass concentrations and temperatures in test aqueous solution. The dynamic viscosity of test aqueous solution is reduced with BN added. Considering the influences of film performance on concentration, load and linear velocity, PEG-600DO-BN aqueous solution is analyzed by nanoscale lubrication film thickness gauge. Result reveals that PEG-600DO-BN solution has a good film performance at the ratio of4:1(5%) under a higher load. The research about the tribological properties of these two kinds of water-soluble additives, PEG-600DO and BN. indicates that this water-based lubricant has good tribological properties and good industrial applications.
