Since the discovery of fullerenes, their skeletal modifications have been a hot topic in fullerene chemistry. So far, a large number of fullerene derivatives with structural diversities have been synthesized. Fortuately, some of them have showed promising applications in solar cells, nanomaterials, photoelectric materials and medicinal chemistry. Herein, we will focus on the synthesis of fullerooxazole and fullerol derivatives promoted by ferrous chloride tetrahydrate in this paper.1. Study on the synthesis of fullerooxazole derivatives promoted by ferrous chloride tetrahydrateA series of fullerooxazole derivatives were synthesized easily and effectively by the ferrous chloride tetrahydrate-based reaction of C6o with various N-methoxybenzamides. We also explored the scope of substrates and the influence of various substituted groups on the reaction. Finally, the possible reaction mechanism for the formulation of products was also proposed.2. Study on the synthesis of fullerol derivatives promoted by ferrous chloride tetrahydrateAs part of our ongoing efforts devoted to the reaction mechanism, we found that it didn’t give the desired product in the same reaction condition with N-methyl-N-methoxy benzamide as substrate. Unexpectedly, we got a series of fullerol derivatives. Furthermore, we expanded the scope of substrates and explored the influence of various substituted groups on reaction. The possible reaction mechanism for the formulation of products was also discussed.
