The converter campaign life is a comprehensive index which reflects the steel-making enterprises’level of production, technology and management. It plays a significant role in controlling the steel-making process in the converter and reducing the cost. However, the steps related to the controlling process are complex and variable. So, how to prolong the life of converter campaign is a technical problem with which large steel-making companies in China and abroad confronted with for a long time.The research in this paper is done based on the technology platform of the steel-making factory in Pingxiang, Jiangxi province. We used the management of "basing on the optimization of process, supporting by slag splashing protection technology, guaranteeing by controlling the type of converters, supplying by scientific fettling" to carry out the technical researches. As a result, the converters run safely, the production capacity is increased, and the consumption is reduced. Besides, the amount of materials used to protect converters decreased dramatically, effective controlling of the thickness of slag splashing layer is reached, and good metallurgical performance is achieved. The author of the paper is one of the men who were responsible for prolonging the converter campaign life, and participated in the scheme of research and production practice.The campaign life of the35t converter is increased and reaches100,000times safely, economically and efficiently by adopting the chief furnace responsible for the target management system, and strictly control the charging molten iron in the range of [S]≤0.04%,[Si]≤0.4%; Meanwhile, Cooperated with two minutes of slag splashing in which the lance height of0.5mâ†'1.4mâ†'1.2m, and than using the method of fettling, including pour filling, lost filling, patch bonding and Gunning, to repair the converter lining. With the increasingly fierce competition in the market, there is no doubt that the prolonging of converter campaign life has a very positive and practical significance on the topic of "energy-saving, output-increasing and consumption-decreasing".
