Iron and steel industry is the fundamental industry of China national economy.The technical level of continuous casting is one of primary target for assessingtechnological advancement in the iron and steel industry. It plays an important role inincreasing iron and steel output, reducing energy consumption and pollution andimproving efficiency.As the most important component in continuous casting machine, continuouscasting roller (CCR) is necessary for continuous casting process. Therefore, thequality and life of CCR is such a key factor that they will greatly influence theproduction cost and quality and the operation efficiency of continuous castingmachine. Because every year the consumption and cost of CCR is very large, Thesteel enterprise pays more and more attentions on it.In this paper, it is investigated that the application of submerged arc surfacingwelding technology for manufacturing and repairing the continuous casting roller.Based on the analysis of surface deteriorating tendencies of rollers from differentmanufacturers, different sections and different positions, it is studied that selection ofweld material and body material, heat treatment after welding process and realizationof the automatic and intelligent welding process, etc. We developed the drivingequipment of continuous casting roller welding machine with vector control,frequency conversion and velocity modulation type. On the basis of analyzing themachining process index and its influencing factors, one mathematical model ofmulti-objective optimization theory is applied to CCR submerged arc surfacingwelding processing, and has optimized the process parameters. The result shows thatthe method is suitable for directing the welding processing. By successfullycombining modern design method with control technology, some small-scaleexperiments with advanced materials, equipment and process are conducted. Theefforts facilitates the development of CCR submerged arc surfacing welding technology. It makes it possible for mass production and repair of CCR utilizingsubmerged arc surfacing welding with longer life and lower cost.
