In the process of metal electrodeposition,the metal electrode is in the "core" status,therefore,in the electrodeposition process of chloride solution, selecting the appropriateelectrode material is necessary. All along,the electrode material which is used in thechlor-alkali industry requiring a large surface area、good conductivity、high catalyticactivity、long life and low cost and so on,but many materials are difficult to meet theserequirements.Among chloride electrolysis system, when the metal is enriched by using theelectrodeposition method,sinceCl concentration is relatively high in the electrolyte,whichwill generate a lot of chlorine in the electrolysis process. In the actual production,theproduced chlorine not only harms the health of workers in the workshop,but also theproduced chlorine pollutes the environment seriously,the quality of the electrodepositedmetal is also affected and changed the nature of the electrolyte. Many workshops on the useof alkali absorption of produced chlorine, to solve a series of problems caused by thegenerated chlorine,but, the alkali absorption would cause an increase in cost. This article teststhe potential of oxygen evolution and chlorine evolution potential of different electrodes,toselect out a kind of electrode,which potential of oxygen evolution is lower than the chlorineevolution.As has been the studying of low oxygen evolution potential of the electrodes is small.Thus, taking into account the health hazards caused by chlorine on shop workers,in the metaldeposition process of chloride solution, the study of a low oxygen evolution potential of theelectrode is very necessary. Meanwhile,from the cost considerations,during the preparationof the electrode,it is possible to try to use non-precious instead of precious metals. Moreurgent needing to develop a suitable electrode materials which is low oxygen evolutionpotential in acidic medium.First,this article studies the preparation process of titanium substrate coated electrodes,including prepared temperature、 preparation of the outer layer and so on. To prepare suitableelectrode which can be used in a strongly acidic (pH is2-3) and high current densities.and oxygen evolution potential of the electrode is lower than the chlorine evolution potential.Next, the three types of electrodes are studied,Including carbon series of electrodes(carbon cloth electrode,carbon felt electrodes,adhesive-based graphite felt)、titanium seriesof electrodes (the prepared A electrode、titanium substrate coated electrode of Iridium and tantalum、titanium substrate coated electrode of iridium and ruthenium) and lead-silverelectrodes,and studies the three types of electrodes’ oxygen evolution potential、chlorineevolution potential and electrode life.Finally,making a summary of the experiment and outlook,choosing out the electrodewhich is suitable for strong acidic solution and the high current density—titanium substratecoated electrodes of ruthenium and iridium.
