Phenolic/MMT nanocomposite is a novel material. Because the layer panels of MMT are dispersed in the nanometer scales, PF/MMT nanocomposites do not only keep the inherent performance of phenolic resins such as superior heat-resistance, not fire and emiting smoke under high temperature, but conquer the disadvantages such as the brittleness and weak bonding power, moreover further increase the heat-resistant and mechanical properties. so phenolic/MMT nanocomposites have attracted substantial attention. In this paper, I successfully prepared the novolak/MMT nanocomposites by different methods and found heat-resistance and mechanical properties have been substantially improve by the comparison. The paper includes the following parts:firstly, preparing the organophilic-montmorillonite with the self-synthesizing intercalative reagents as quarter ammonium with epoxy and R-amido hydroxybenzene; secondly, preparing the novolak/MMT nanocomposite by making use of solution intercalation, situ polymerization intercalation, and subsequently comparing the preparing ways and studying thermal properties. Finally, synthesizing a new adhesive according to preparing ways of novolak/MMT nanocomposites and studying their mechanical performance simultaneously. The result of study shows that thermal stability of novolak/MMT nanocomposites increase30~50℃in contrast to the pure phenolic resins, and find the thermal property of polymerization solution intercalation with D1821-OMT is superior. In addition, mechanical performance of synthesized adhesive is evidently elevated and is the most excellent when the content of OMT is3wt%contrast to the phenolic resin, the performance of situ polymerization intercalation with HY-OMT is the best among of them, whose properties as tensile strength increase100%.
