Research On Children’s Furniture Design

Since the reform and opening up30years of living conditions gradually improved,rationality and scientific layout of the living space has been more widely implemented,especially in our cities to upgrade the living conditions get the premise, so many parentswant to children of a relatively independent and full of fun learning and living space, fullydemonstrate a huge market potential of Children Furniture. As a new category in thefurniture market, Children Furniture has been gradually developing. However, as a specialgroup, children are too immature to prevent themselves from any potential hazards;therefore, the rational design of Children Furniture is essential to possess kids of wellliving environment. Consequently, the main content of this research is to practically andtheoretically discuss the problems which exist in the market and design of ChildrenFurniture.The main research method is more commonly used by research method.Chart analysis,Case study, Deductive method, and Practical operation, to discuss and extend the Designconcepts of Children Furniture, and to integrate the psychological characteristics ofchildren with the design of furniture. With highly consistency of safety and aestheticinterest, the research combined aesthetic character with functionality to discuss Designphilosophies which meet up with children’s physical and mental characteristics inmulti-aspects. And through focusing on the case study of children’s chairs and the author’sapplication, to reasonably explain and instruct the concepts in the paper.The prime focus of this research is to scrutinize the artistry and functionality design ofChildren Furniture. Guided by product design theory and modern methodology, the thesisadopted multidisciplinary methods, e.g. Kidology, Ergonomics, Design psychology andMarketing. The research also analyzed the Children Furniture domestically and abroad, andObtained based on physical and psychological characteristics to reach scientific designprinciples of Children Furniture.In the aspect of material design, Children Furniture has to follow the national standardto put forward the research and analysis of the new materials. In modeling design, the linesand edges of the furniture should be smooth, and switch and surface need to be exquisite,to prevent children from being hurt. In addition, hardware cannot be exposed, utilizeoxidation treatment or lace it with soft rubber strip is needed, to prevent children in therunning of collision, etc. Through the research on the bionics design, the artistry,interestingness and functionality of the Children Furniture can be able to achieveunification. In terms of color design, suggestions were made in accordance with children’spsychological color; relations between color collocations with children’s psychology were proposed in detail. In terms of the ergonomics, products should strictly abide by theprinciple of ergonomics, to formulate the scientific scales of Children Furniture whichdistinguish static body sizes from motive, etc. In terms of using function, the research paidattention to the multi-functional requirements and thereby put forward the long-term useof Children Furniture(Can Grow Furniture). In the process of the inquiry, around theconsistency of aesthetic and functionality design of Children Furniture, the researchcombined with children’s physical and mental characteristics as the main line, thus cameup with Children’s Chair which exactly accord with the demand of children, and alsowidened the train of thought. The author will be glad to see more furniture which belongsto children can be designed and created in order to truly meet the needs of children.
