As the production scale of petroleum and petrochemical industry’s expanding, more andmore leakage accidents of toxic gas happen in the production, storage and transportation. Theleaked toxic gas diffuses down to the atmosphere, it pose a threat to human health. It hasbecome widespread concerned world of the environment and security issues in today. It’s verynecessary to study on the diffusion process of leaked toxic gas. Experimental research notonly needs high funding, but also has a certain risk. So this topic adopts the method ofcomputer simulation to study on toxic gas diffusion.This paper has analysis several existing diffusion models. According to thecharacteristics of the models and the needs of application, selects Gaussian model andturbulent diffusion model as the mathematical model for simulation. Discusses the simulationmethod of gas diffusion, particle system can simulate the fuzzy object, but it is not suitable formodeling an object which needs too many particles. And the particle system is poor in datainteractivity. OpenGL has a powerful function on graphic processing. Apply it in the VC++development environment, and then we can establish a visible environment of toxic gasdiffusion simulation system. With the object oriented programming method, the realization ofsystem function is divided into initialization module, parameter input module, simulation runmodule and the results output module. Through modules invoking each other, the wholefunction of the system is realized. After processing the input data, system can conductnumerical simulation and visual simulation. Test the system combined with the instance,verify the integrity of the simulation system function. Make a simple evaluation of theselected mathematical model according the computation, and bring forward an improvementto the model.The simulation system has a friendly user interface, and easy to operate. After inputtingparameters, users can access the satisfactory simulation and the scientific visualization of dataresults from the simulation system. It is possible to develop a toxic gas diffusion visible simulation system with OpenGL. The system can make scientific prediction of dangerousareas and damage degree according to leakage accident quickly.
