Layered hydroxide salt (LHS) and layered double hydroxide (LDH) are two typicalanionic layered materials, which can provide two-dimensional interlayer space in order toconfer different chemical properties. However, the synthesis and properties of LHS are lesswidely investigated than those of LDH-based materials up to now. Compared with LDH,LHS has many advantages such as simply synthesis progress, high ion exchange capacityand a high charge density, and so on. LHS have more ability to accommodate guestmolecules, better thermal stability and sustained performance. This paper develops a newmethod in preparing neutral hydrophobic pesticide chlorpyrifos (CPF) intercalated intoZHN, and the released behavior and the release mechanism are studied. Moreover, ZHNintercalated with salicylate (ZHN-Sal) is successfully synthesized by coprecipitationmethod. The main conclusions are as follows:1. The preparation and characterization of surfactant intercalated into ZHN. ZHNintercalated with dodecyl benzene sulphonate (DBS) and dodecyl dimethyl betaine (BS-12)are successfully synthesized by coprecipitation method and ion exchange method. Thecrystal structures are characterized by XRD and FTIR. Furthermore, TG-DTA data showsthat the stability of DBS and BS-12is improved.2. The preparation, characterization and release properties of CPF intercalatedmaterials. The micelles are firstly formed by CPF and DBS, nonionic (TX-10), BS-12surfactants, respectively, and then ZHN-DBS is injected into CPF micelle to obtain CPFhybrid material. The products are confirmed by XRD, FTIR, TG-DTA, Elemental analysisand Inductive coupled plasma emission spectrometer (ICP). The CPF loadings followed theorder of: BS-12micelles> TX-10micelles> DBS micelles, which depend closely onsurfactant type and its arrangement in the interlayer. This hybrid material has a good releaseproperties, whch may be used as a drug delivery system.3. The preparation of salicylate intercalated ZHN (ZHN-Sal) and UV absorptionproperties. The products are confirmed by XRD, FTIR and TG-DTA. ZHN-Sal with purephase can be obtained at pH=6.0~6.5,60oC and3h of temperature and time ofhydrothermal treatment. TG-DTA date indicats the stability of salicylate is improved in the interlayer. ZHN-Sal exhibits an improved UV-blocking ability properties coming from thedural effects of chemical absorption of NaSal and strong physical screen of LHS for UVlight, showing ZHN can be used as potential alternative matrixes for the UV blocker.
