Banyan Obo ore is a famous oversize complex ore deposit which mainly engages in iron,rareearth and fluorite, combined with scandium, niobium, etc. Scandium is a typical scattered heavyrare earth element, and no independent mineral of it is found in Bayan Obo ore. Scandium hasbeen extensively used in aerospace, military, electronics, materials and other important areas, for ithas many good physical and chemical properties. So far, the utilization ratio of scandium in BayanObo ore is0%. Thus, it has tremendous economic and environmental significance to adopttraditional methods to recover scandium minerals from all kinds of ores in Bayan Obo ore, whichmeans to be suitable to the present condition of our country.Baotou Steel dressing plant now uses the technological process of weak magnetic-strongmagnetic-flotation, and two routes aiming at Bayan Obo ore separation recycling: one is thatmaking a comprehensive recovery of iron and fluorite in the order of weak magnetic separation,strong magnetic and then reverse flotation.In recent years, many domestic research institutes and universities have given a lot of reportsreporting to the recycle of iron, rare earth, niobium and fluorite in Bayan Obo ore, such ascomposite inhibitor was used to optimize the rare earth flotation reagents of Baotou Steel dressingpant, adopting the mineral intergrowth combined process to make a comprehensive recovery ofBayan Obo ore resources, Bayan Obo tailing recycles iron, rare earth, fluorite and other research.As to the ways of traditional mineral separation to recover the scandium in Bayan Obo ore,Changsha Institute for Mining and Metallurgy has carried on the relevant research in this aspect,while the report of this research remains in minority. It should be development direction to realizethe comprehensive recycling of Bayan Obo ore resources.In this study, the use of X-ray sorting technology to carry out the Bayan Obo ore containingscandium mineral separation and sorting in order thorium, niobium, rare earth minerals, And thenselect X-rays followed by separation of thorium, niobium, rare earth mineral deficiencies resultingtailings instead of scandium concentrate research containing scandium mineral separation test,using “weak magnetic-reverse flotation” process to recover scandium minerals.This study has obtained many results as follows: ⑴According to the element characteristic of X ray-its uniqueness, we can use X-ray separator toadopt the technology that separating thorium ore, sorting niobium ore and then separating rareearth mine successively under the condition of ore grade between3and15cm.Once containingscandium mineral separation was about250ppm scandium concentrate;Thorium ore concentratewhose grade is0.04%and recovery is30.13%can be produced in the threshold value is0.13;niobium concentrate whose grade is0.21%and recovery is14.46%can be obtained in thethreshold value is0.2; rare earth concentrate whose grade is11.27%and recovery is25.18%canbe produced in the threshold value is0.62; the scandium grade and the recovery of the tailingachieved are105.89ppm and51.72%respectively.⑵Iron concentrate with62.03%of grade.66.04%of recovery and magnetic tailing with scandiumgrade of110.3ppm,72%of recovery can be obtained by adopting magnetic separation of magneticfield intensity is95.5KA/M to realize magnetic separation of tailing to X-ray under the conditionof90%but200mesh.⑶By making a rough selection test to magnetic tailings, we can find scandium coarse concentrateof242.75ppm grade and50.82%of recovery under the condition of40%of pulp concentration,pulp temperature is40℃,94.5%of-200mesh, pH=9.5,Na2CO3is pH adjusting agent, dosage ofsodium silicate is3kg/t, dosage of oleic acid is1.8kg/t. Scandium concentrate of418.72ppm gradeand31.2%of recovery can be eventually produced after selecting the scandium rough concentratethree times.
