Belt conveyor is a widely used continuously transporting machine in coal mines,which has advantages such as strong transportation capacity, wide adaptability todifferent terrains and good maintenance. Due to the abominable working conditionunderground, it often cause faults such as belt break, skid and aberrancy of beltconveyor. In order to increase the production and protect the safety of worker anddevices, it’s very necessary to design a comprehensive condition monitoring systemfor belt conveyor. In particular, designing a reliable capture device to protect the breakof belt has a great significance for coal mine safety production.A comprehensive condition monitoring system for belt conveyor based on PLCand LabVIEW has been established. In this monitoring system, sensors of beltslipping, belt disalignment, temperature, coal piling, smoking and speed were used tomonitor working parameters of belt conveyor, Siemens S7-200PLC was used as alower device, LabVIEW was used as a upper device, and OPC was used to realizecommunication between PLC and LabVIEW. According to functional requirements ofthe monitoring system, the corresponding PLC and LabVIEW software had beenprogrammed on the basis of the object-oriented programming ideas and following theprinciple of modular programming. In general, the monitoring system has character ofstrong power of anti-jamming, stability of communication and human-computerinteraction. It’s also has functions of condition monitoring, faults warning, historydata recording, and remote controlling of the belt conveyor.A new type of monolithic belt break capture device has been designed in allusionto the emergency stop and break of belt conveyor, which will avoid accidents causedby out control of the high speed belt. The belt capture device was composed ofmechanical device, electrical and hydraulic system. When the belt is broken, theelectrical system starts the hydraulic system immediately which drives the mechanicaldevice to capture the belt reliably. In order to test the performance of the belt capturedevice, a prototype has been developed based on AMESim simulation. And a test-rigwhich was used to simulate the condition of belt broken has been built to measure theresponse time and capture force of the device.This paper contains57figures,14tables, and86references.
