The Application Of DFA In Customized Cabinet Design

As an emerging field of furniture,disconnection between design and assembly has been akey factor which restricting the development of customized cabinet. The subject of the study wasaimed at customized cabinet. This study explored its characteristics, analyzed the status quo of itsdesign and assembly of the status quo and the reason cause it. Aimed at the reason, Design forAssembly (DFA) was studied and the development process based on DFAfor customized cabinetwas designed. In the last, A of Firm Y was test this process and the appropriate conclusions wasdrawed.This article’s main results and conclusions are as follows:The assemblability is the premise, the foundation, the basis and the ultimate goal of DFAand it was carried out a detailed study. The factors, evaluation criteria, evaluation methods of theassemblability were studied and two evaluation systems for assemblability were establishedbased on unit-level and part-level. It would lay the foundation and develop a testing standard forthe DFAin the development of customized cabinet.From the definition and principles of DFA, DFA was studied combined with the operationmode in concurrent engineering. This article proposed the design ideas which improveassemblability of the products by optimize the products from the structure and the assemblyprocess of them. The classification of product parts was summarized and based on theclassification, this article proposed a series of structure’s optimization such as reducing thenumber and types of components, optimizing connections between components, makingcomponents easy to locate, designing the right assembly precision, error-proofing designprinciples and ensure the structural stability of components in the assembly process. This articlealso studied the optimization method of products’ assembly process and optimized the products’assembly process by sub-assembly planning, assembly sequence generation, assembly planselection, assembly resource planning.Applied to different fields, DFA has different interpretations. From the current situation andthe specific characteristics of the customized cabinet, this article designed the developmentprocess based on DFA for the customized cabinet. The development process based on DFA forthe customized cabinet was used in the design of chest of drawers of Y. It would demonstrate theresearch results by practical application and guide the practical application by the researchresults.
