Recently, synthetizing functional coordination compounds with novel structure andproperties have been widely concerned. Some of the complexes aredefinitely worth exploring because of their properties of single molecular magnets andsingle chain magnets, which makes them become potential information reserve materials.One of the critical steps is selecting ligands with particular coordination ability andcoordination site for preparation. Two kinds of organic compounds(2-(4-methyl-1H-pyrazol-3-yl)phenol and4′-(n-pyridyl)-2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine) wereemployed as ligands to build transition complexes and rare earth complexes and7complexes were obtained. By studying their structures and magnetic properties, twocomplexes were proved to be a single molecular magnet/a single chain magnet respectively,which could be treated as potential high density storage materials. At the same time, onecomplex was with fluorescence property.This thesis is divided into four chapters:Chapter1, the background of application of two ligands have been briefly reviewed,and the concept and research background of single molecular magnets and single chainmagnets were introduced.Chapter2, the ligand2-(4-methyl-1H-pyrazol-3-yl)phenol was employed to preparethe two complex [Fe2(Hmpp)4(OMe)2]3MeOH (1) and [Mn3(μ3-O)(Hmpp)3(MeOH)4(N3)](2). And their crystal structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffractionmethod.The crystal structures and magnetic properties of these complexes were studied.Magnetic studies indicated that the complex1was antiferromagnetic, and complex2wasproven to be a single chain magnet.Chapter3, the ligand4′-(n-pyridyl)-2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine(n=2、3) was employed toprepare the three complex [Cu(2-pytpy)(C2N3)2](3)、[Cu(2-pytpy)(N3)(ClO4)](4) and[Cu(2-pytpy)(NO3)2](5) by controlling counter anions N3-、ClO4-、NO3-and C2N3-. Wefocused on the effect of anion on the structure.Chapter4, we described the synthesis of complex [Dy(2-pytpy)(NO3)3(H2O)](6) and[Yb(3-pytpy)(MeOH)(NO3)2(H2O)](7). The crystal structures、magnetic properties andluminescent properties of these complexes have been studied and results indicated that thecomplex6was a single molecular magnets.
