The paper presented a novel method for preparation2,5-dimethyl furan by catalytichydrogenation of5-hydroxymethyl furfural. Experiments including two parts:5-hydroxymethyl furfural preparation and5-hydroxymethyl furfural catalytichydrogenation. In5-hydroxymethyl furfural preparation section fructose as raw materialstudy the effects by catalysts, accelerators and solvent in fructose dehydration to5-hydroxymethyl furfural. Experimental results show that using fructose as a raw material,ZnCl2as catalyst, NH4Br as the promoter, N, N-dimethylacetamide as solvent, reactiontemperature120℃,1h the reaction was stirred under reflux in an oil bath to obtain a highyield of5-hydroxymethyl furfural (94%).5-hydroxymethyl furfural/N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) was used as a raw material mixture for5-hydroxymethylfurfural catalytic hydrogenation research. Experiment unsupported Mo-Ni alloy and Pd/Cas catalyst investigated under different temperature and pressure conditions5-hydroxymethyl furfural catalytic hydrogenation to2,5-dimethyl furan process in fixedbed reactor and autoclave reactor. The experiment results show that Mo-Ni alloy and Pd/Cas catalyst can’t reduction5-hydroxymethyl furfural to2,5-dimethyl furan in the5-hydroxymethyl furfural/N, N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc).We also use an electrochemical method for the catalytic reduction of5-hydroxymethylfurfural catalytic reduction studies. Using5-hydroxymethyl furfural/DMAc liquid and100g/L KNO3solution was mixed in a volume ratio of1:4as the electrolytic liquid, ZrO2doped graphite electrode as the cathode, a platinum electrode as the anode in5-hydroxymethylfurfural electro-catalytic hydrogenation research. It was found that whenthe power supply output is4.0V, the current density was12.5mA.cm-2under the conditionsof electrolysis6h,5-hydroxymethylfurfural was catalytic reduction to2,5-dimethylfuransuccessfully. When ZrO2doped (relative quality graphite) mass percentage of8%,electro-catalytic reduction obtained-higher2,5-dimethyl furan in yield was30.7%. ZrO2were characterized by XRD and the result show that the activity ZrO2in the catalyticreduction is monoclinic ZrO2.
