In this paper, A functionalized grafted polymer of CPE named CPE-cg-GMA isproduced by in-situ chlorinating graft copolymerization with glycidyl methacrylate(GMA) onto high density polyethylene (HDPE).The product shows excellentmechanical properties due to its special molecular structure.The structure of the graftcopolymer was discussed in this work by FTIR,1H-NMR, DSC, SEM.The resultsshow that it is easy to generate hydrolysis reaction for epoxide group in the graft chainto form hydroxyl group during reaction. And the hydroxyl group can form hydrogenbond with other macromolecules.the graft ratio of CPE-cg-GMA calculated by1H-NMR spectrum is0.72%;In addition, the crystallinity of CPE-cg-GMA is muchsmaller then that of CPE with the same chlorine content due to the existence of thegraft chain. At the same time, the comprehensive mechanics performancal ofCPE-cg-GMA increases significantly.Secondly, the CPE-cg-GMA in-situ chlorinating graft copolymerization of basicMechanical properties are Explored further.The mechanical properties of the productare affected by many factors, such as the chlorine content, the amount of monomerGMA, and the synthesis temperature. Dueto explore the factors above we find that theproducts show the best performance when the chlorine content is32%and amount ofmonomer is6to8phr. The target is to explore the optimal mechanical properties underthe optimal conditions.Finally, the application and processing of graft polymer properties were studiedaccording to the basic formulation.CPE-cg-GMA polymer prepared by in-situchlorinating graft shows an excellent properties on brittle fracture of low temperatureand aging resistance etc, which can all meet the application. However, CPE is linearmacromolecules and there is no cross-linking, making the final product to have highcompression.Considering the characteristics of the reaction that hexamethylenediaminecan react with the epoxy in ring opening reaction, hydroxyl groups and Anhydridegroup and all of these can make a contribution to the graft polymer CPE-cg-GMAchain extension reaction,so it is necessary to study the system of crystallinity, glasstransition temperature and mechanical loss with the means of DSC, DMA.The experiment results show that: hexamethylenediamine can make a contribution to thesystem of chain extension reaction, in other words, it can generate crosslinkingreaction between molecular chains.And by changing the ratio betweenhexamethylenediamine and graft polymerization, pressing time and pressuretemperature, the best conditions and the optimum ratio between hexamethylenediamine and CPE-cg-GMA are explored.
