The acrylate copolymer emulsion binderis wildly used in many application areas due to its advantages compare with other binders. In printing industry, it’s mainly used in pigment printing and paste printing.The article discusses the history, characteristics, ingredients, principle and new technology of emulsion copolymerization, shows the annual global main monomer supplying quantity for emulsion copolymerization and introduces main emulsion manufactures in the market, providing brief analyses of the main application area of emulsion copolymerization.The article explains the synthesis of printing binder and gives detailed analysis of the effects on the polymerization process such as acrylate monomer, emulsifier, functional monomers, reacting temperature, and reaction initialization system. The analysis focus on the performance, dosage and mixing ratio of the functional monomers and gives conclusion that in the paste printing binder formulation with the combined using of cross-linking monomers N-(Isobutoxymethyl)acrylamide (IBMA) and2-(Acetoacetyloxy) ethyl Methacrylate (AAEM), it offers excellent crosslink performance and also bring very good feeling and elasticity; and in the pigment printing binder formulation, with the combined using of cross-linking monomers Diacetone Acrylamide (DAAM) and Glycidylmethacrylate (GMA), it brings much better touch feeling and color fastness, so it’s more suitable for pigment printing.The discussing including the application of printing binder.In pigment printing application, we analyzed the influences of baking, color fixing agent, carbamide and dosage of binder on the printing performance. In paste printing application, we analyzed the influence of the ratio of white printing paste and clear printing paste, titanium oxide, thickener, anti-adhesion agent and anti-foamer on the printing performance. In addition, discussed the cases and solutions to the common problems in the two printing applications.Introduced the common copolymerization of acrylate emulsion, providing a basic introduction of formulation design, procedure control, facilities, and the method of treatment on wasted gas and water of the CUH-812Series Printing Binder.
