Titanium alloys are widely used in aerospace and civilian industry because of theirexcellent high specific strength and corrosion resistance. Titanium alloys are consideredas typical difficult-to-cut materials due to their low modulus of elasticity, low thermalconductivity, high chemical reactivity. In the machining of titanium alloy, the majoritycutting tools materials selected cemented carbide, but the kind of tool consume largeamounts of rare metal elements and the tool’s life is short、the cutting speed is low. Withthe widely use of new tool material, people began to look for other cutting toolmaterials in cutting titanium alloy. PCBN cutting tools has excellent characteristics:high hardness,chemical inertia,and thermodynamic stability,and these characteristicsare machining titanium alloy tool material should have.Ceramic tools has excellentcharacteristics such as high hardness,wear resistance and heat resistantperformance.They have been widely used in maching difficult-to-cut materials such asnickel-based alloy and hardened steel. Developing the ceramic cutting tool can save (w、Co) and other precious matel beacaue the ceramic cutting tool using the material ofAl2O3、Si3N4is one the most abundant raw materials in the crust. Therefore, the subjectmainly study on the tool wear characteristics of cutting titanium alloy with PCBN andceramic tools.By adopting the method of single factor test, analysis the main tool wearmorphology and wear mechanism when cutting titanium alloy with different materialstool; Analysis of cutting parameter, cutting conditions on the influent of tool wear.Establish a relation expression of tool’s life T and cutting speed v.The results show that when cutting titanium alloy with PCBN tool, the main wearmechanisms are adhesion, diffusion and impact wear. With the increase of cuttingspeed, the tool wear intensified. When cutting titanium alloy with ceramic tool, nomatter low and high speed, the main wear morphology is groove wear. Ceramic toolcontains the elements having large affinity with titanium alloy, so ceramic cutting tools have adhesion, diffusion wear more serious when cutting the titanium alloy. Establisha relation expression of tool’s life T and cutting speed v of PCBN YCB012and cereamictools CC6060. YCB012influenced by the cutting speed is bigger than CC6060...
