The Research On The Trimming Of Women Clothing Of Late Qing Dynasty And Its Innovative Application

The trimming have been wildly used in traditional Chinese women clothing, is one of themain decorative techniques. The study is based on130pieces of women clothing of late Qingdynasty, which are well preserved out of the collections of the National Costume Museum inBeijing Institute of Fashion Technology. By measuring, we discussed the decorative features andsignificance of these trimmings, and more over, the aesthetic values. With a design perspective,the paper analyzed the model, color, crafts and material. What’s more, after the real objectsstudy and combined with today’s design, the author did some creative practices. The purpose ofthe study is to propose some new ideas about the trimming of women clothing in late Qingdynasty, and to provide some usefully points to the designers about how to use the traditionalelements in modern design.
