Product innovation is not only the result of the development of science technology and thepractice of science, but also the key of whether the enterprise can get a further competitiveadvantage in the market competition. With the market competition becoming fiercer and fiercer,the enterprise needs to make constant innovation for satisfying products requirements ofdifferent customers.How to quickly find the design objects and how to find the solutions of design objects isthe question that should be solved by designers in reverse design. Starting from constructingcomponents information model of the mechanical product assembly model, the process ofusing trimming to solve the relevant issues in product design is been explored in this paper.In the first place, research status of conceptual design and reverse design and TRIZ theoryare elaborated, as well as the use of knowledge and methods in reverse design. Assembly modelis selected as the research object of this paper through the analysis of the problems and the roleof trimming in product reverse design. The main content of this paper is determined accordingto the application of trimming in the assembly model and the solutions of related problems.In the next place, through the study of the comparison in modeling methods and the basicmessage in part, level message, assembly message of assembly model, representation andstorage of component information model are determined. Using the object-oriented approach,component information is packaged into class, ensuring the independence and relevance ofinformation between different components, completing the component information model. Theprocess of modeling component information model is represented by using an example,supplementing to the current research on component information model of assembly model.Thirdly, the application of value engineering in the assembly model is discussed in thispaper. And the way to confirm the value assessment by using function coefficient to assessfunction and cost coefficient to assess cost is ascertained. Based on the comparison between theassembly relationship in assembly model and functional basic, the ‘mapping database ofassembly-function’ is built. Studying on cost assessment, the suitable cost estimation method ofcomponents information model is chose. The price of unit weight database is built byinvestigating the market. Through researching on the selection principle of trimming object and the trimmingscheme proposed, the general process of trimming implementation based on the assemblymodel is put forward, and the database of examples based on function is built. By means ofstudying on trimming in assembly model, an effective method is provided for designers. So thedesigners can quickly found the objects and the way to solve the problems in product reservedesign.Finally, the development of computer aided system based on SolidWorks is completed.The feasibility of theoretical research and system is verified through the analysis of tug-of-warrobot.
