In order to explore suitable for textile warp sizing of amphoteric polyacrylamide(AmPAM) as warp sizing agent. A series of different molecular structures amphotericpolyacrylamide copolymer (AmPAM) was synthesized using acrylamide (AM), acrylic acid(AA) and acryloxyethyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (DAC) as copolymeric monomers, potassium persulfate (K2S2O8) as initiator in aqueous system. And the structures werecharacterized by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), highperformance gel chromatography (GPC).Then the sizing viscosity, adhesion properties, filmproperties, biodegradability properties, desizing performance were evaluated. The explorationof the feasibility of the amphoteric polyacrylamide copolymer as a warp sizing applications, the internal relationship between sizing performance and molecular structure of AmPAM sizeswas revealed and references for the study and the development and application of AmPAMsizes were provided in warp sizing.Research results showed that, not only can this article as a sizing synthesized usingamphoteric polyacrylamide copolymer, and has excellent adhesion properties. Specifically, itincreases the amount of DAC, the synthetic polymer of cotton and polyester fibers increasesadhesion, film performance is also better, but its biodegradability and desizing performancedeteriorated. Considering the film, adhesion, viscosity, biodegradability and desizingperformance, selecting the structure of AM/AA/DAC=70/15/15is appropriate for AmPAMsizes. In view of the hydrogen bonds between the starch molecules and the glucose residues inthe cyclic structure, resulting in the starch film and brittle, lack of fiber bonding strength, andthus can not meet the requirements. AmPAM sizes also has the characteristic of high adhesionand toughness good, so AmPAM/starch blends studied AmPAM toughening effect on starch,Afterwards, adhesion of this blends to fibers were studied and tensile properties ofAmPAM/Starch film were explored. It was found that the incorporation of AmPAM intostarch could significantly improve the adhesion of the blends to the fibers. The adhesionstrength increased with the increase in proportion of AmPAM. The incorporation was able tomitigate the brittleness of starch film and produce toughing effect on the film. And it was alsohelpful to reduce the time required to break in water, raised moisture absorption of the film, and increased its water-swelling power, which was easy to desizing of the blends in textileproduction. Finally, the mechanical properties of the film from the blend, the bending fatigueresistance, and the retreat of the adhesive strength of the fibers and other considerations,AmPAM appropriate blend ratio of20/80.
