A series of fluorinated acrylate copolymer latex with core–shell structurewere synthesized by semi-continuous seeded emulsion polymerization method.We use methyl methacrylate (MMA), butyl acrylate(BA), acrylic acid(AA) asraw material, fluorinated acrylate monomer as modification, ammoniumpersulfate(APS) as initiator, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) andpolyoxyethylene octyl phenyl ether (OP-10) as emulsifier and take deionizedwater as dispersion medium. This paper conducted a study from the followingareas:1. The polymerization process conditions are firstly discussed in this paper,the polymerization reaction temperature, dropping time, stirring speed, the kindand the amount of initiator, the types and dosage of emulsifier, the ratio of softmonomer and hard monomer on the properties of emulsion are studied, thebest prescription of the emulsion polymerization is identified, the influence offluoride monomers on emulsion properties and coating hydro-oleophobicproperty are discussed.2. The emulsion and the resulting films were characterized by contact anglemeasurements(CA), thermogravimetry analysis (TG), differential scanningcalorimetry (DSC), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and fourier transforminfrared spectroscopy (FTIR) respectively.(1) FTIR spectra proved that the novel fluorinated acrylic monomer wassuccessfully incorporated into the copolymer chains. The test results of thelaser granulometer showed that the average particle size of seed emulsion is82nanometers, the average particle size of core-shell emulsion is130nanometers, the latex particle size distribution uniformity and concentration.It’s indicated that the emulsion formed good core-shell structure, the latexparticles is in nanoscale.(2) The glass transition temperature of shell polymer is55℃while the glass transition temperature of nuclear layer is-1.8℃. It illustrates that thepreparation of fluorine-containing acrylate copolymer with core-shell structure,the film is transparent, it is because shell and core layer separation is a kind ofmicro separation from a macro point of view.(3) The decomposition speed of fluorine-containing acrylate copolymer isslower than acrylate, It’s indicated that the coating decomposition ratedecreases after the introduction of fluorine-containing acrylate copolymergroups, and its heat resistance is good, also the thermal stability of thecopolymer is improved greatly. At the same time, along with the increase offluoride monomer, the thermal decomposition speed of fluorinated acrylatecopolymer film is slower and slower. It’s indicated that the performance of heatresistance is very good.(4) When the mass fraction of fluorinated monomer(PFOA) is9%, thewater contact angle of the coating surface is114°, the hexadecane contactangle is85°, and the hydro-oleophobic performance is excellent. With theincrease of mass fraction of the fluorinated monomer, contact angle of liquidgradually increases, when the mass fraction of fluorinated monomer is9%,continue to increase its quality score, the liquid contact angle of copolymer filmis no longer increasing.3. The application experiments of the fluorinated acrylate copolymeremulsion are studied. When coating the ink on an iron substrate directly, nearlyall the ink residues; While we coated the fluorine-containing acrylatecopolymer emulsion on the iron substrate firstly and then coated ink, the inkresidue decreased significantly, providing theoretical basis for practicalapplication.
