Hydrogenation reactor is key equipment in modern oil-refining industry. The steel plates used are exposed in high-temperature and high pressure hydrogen working condition which is extremely severe. It shall not only satisfy the mechanical properties of normal temperature, but shall also meet the requirement of strength, anti-tempering embrittlement and hydrogen attack in high temperature. In recent years, the demand for thick steel plates of hydrogenation equipment has raised substantially. However, domestic steel mills are only capable of making steel plates of thickness below100mm for hydrogenation equipments. So the demand for thick12Cr2MolR(H) plates is mainly depending on import for a long time, but the fact is, because of the long-time procurement cycle and also the high price of imported steel plates, development of petro-chemical industry of china is badly restricted. In order to turn the current situation around, developing the domestic thick12Cr2MolR(H) steel plate of superior performance is becoming more and more meaningful nowadays. This article is a research for150mm thickness12Cr2MolR(H) steel plate developed by Wuyang Steel Mill in order to compare the mechanical properties and metallographic structures in different thickness and positions of the steel plate, i.e. mechanical properties in ambient temperature,340℃,454℃and the low temperature impact toughness in-18℃,-30℃trying to find out the suitable performance parameters for heat treatment procedure on the base of maintaining the material properties. Meanwhile, the preheat temperature, weldability, and hydrogen-resistant peeling property of this steel plate have been ascertained by performing a series of process weldability tests, usage weldability tests and hydrogen-resistant peeling test of strip overlaying, which makes it technically prepared for equipment fabrication. In addition, the compatible welding consumables, the suitable welding process parameters and the rolling and forming process have been ascertained by doing experiments to the150mm thickness12Cr2MolR(H) steel plate i.e. plate rolling, longitudinal seam welding, shell course re-shaping and post weld heat treatment. All the results show that the mechanical properties, weldability and heat treatment property of the domestic150mm thickness12Cr2MolR(H) steel plate are able to satisfy the requirement of hydrogenation equipment material, at the same time, the technology of fabricating hydrogenation reactor with this material has been acquired which constitutes a solid theoretical and technological basis for popularizing and applying domestic thick12Cr2MolR(H) steel plate for hydrogenation reactor use.
