Petroleum drilling is a necessary process for oil and gas exploration anddevelopment. It is the only way to build the oil and gas channel. Besides, it is ahigh-investment, high-risk challenging work, and a very complicated large-scalesystem engineering. Filling mud into the well at wellhead and the monitoring liquidlevel on the mud tank are essential measures for preventing well kick during petroleumdrilling. If the wellbore liquid level cannot be promptly and effectively controlledduring the drilling process, it will lead to downhole pressure imbalance, triggerblowout accident, cause casualties, economic losses, environmental pollution and otheradverse consequences, thus bring tremendous adverse effects. Therefore, it is of greatsignificance for people to fill mud and monitor liquid level rapidly and automaticallyin preventing circulation lost, kick and blowout accidents.Currently, most domestic drilling sites still use artificial operation for filling mudand monitoring liquid level, that is, filling is carried out according to the manual record,and warnings about kick and circulation lost are given out according to the artificialmonitoring of mud tank liquid level.In view of the problems of the low degree of filling automation, large error ofmanual operation, untimely solution to problems existed in drilling site, this paperdesigns a kind of control software (or control program) that can be easily used indrilling site with low cost for automatic filling control system.This paper mainly introduces and describes the monitor and control system ofupper computer, the filling and monitoring system of PLC, the communicationbetween upper computer and PLC, and the communication between upper computerand CAN-RS232board. The WinCC software is used to program for the monitorprogram of upper computer. The liquid level data of mud tank are collected remotelyand displayed and processed by upper computer. At the same time, the data andinformation of wellhead liquid level are achieved remotely, and displayed andprocessed in the same way. The accident warning and filling pump running rely on theliquid level change. The software creates a good human-computer interaction function.In addition, the PLC monitors the wellhead liquid level through liquid sensor, andgives out the direction order to make the pump running. The communication betweenupper computer and PLC: upper computer exchanges data with PLC through OPC PC Access. The communication between upper computer and CAN-RS232board:ultrasonic sensor is adopted to monitor the mud tank liquid level, and communicatesthe upper computer through CAN bus.The proposed control software of automatic grouting control system can easilycontrol the automatic filling process, and effectively carry out data collection,transmission and processing. The control software can also display and archive data,and monitor the filling performance and mud liquid level. The control software ofautomatic filling control system has been tested and applied on site.
