In order to improve the shortcomings of red phosphorus (RP) such as dark color, easyto moisture absorption, easy to burn and so on, the surface coating technology of redphosphorous be used to achieve the requirement of red phosphorous used as flameretardants. Inorganic-organic double encapsulated red phosphorus (DERP) not only canimprove the disadvantages of red phosphorus itself, but has a better flame retardanteffect, at the same time improve the mechanical properties of polymer materials.The main content of the paper is as follows:(1) The Mg(OH)2/PVC double encapsulated red phosphorus (DERP1) was preparedby deposition sedimentation method with magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)2) andPolyvinyl chloride (PVC) as capsule wall and red phosphorous as the capsule core,which can be investigated by SEM, XPS, TG and so on analysis means. The results oftest indicated that an uniform layer of encapsulation was formed,91.9%of the redphosphorus was encapsulated, and the ignition point of red phosphorous is improved.When adding5%DERP1, the flame retardant class of the polypropylene (PP) reachedUL94V-0; When adding30%DERP1(the content of RP is18%), the flame retardantclass of the Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) reached UL94V-0, and maintainedthe superior mechanical properties.(2) The Mg(OH)2/PE double encapsulated red phosphorus (DERP2) was prepared bydeposition sedimentation method with magnesium hydroxide and polyethylene ascapsule wall and red phosphorous as the capsule core,which can be investigated byFESEM, XPS, TG and so on analysis means. The results of test indicated that anuniform layer of encapsulation was formed,95.8%of the red phosphorus wasencapsulated, and the ignition point of red phosphorous is improved. When adding5%DERP2the flame retardant class of the polypropylene(PP) reached UL94V-0. Bymechanical properties test, adding the same amount of DERP2to PP has a better effecton mechanical properties than DERP1.(3) The Mg(OH)2/PP double encapsulated red phosphorus (DERP2) was prepared bydeposition sedimentation method with magnesium hydroxide and PP as capsule walland red phosphorous as the capsule core,which can be investigated by FESEM, XPS,TG and so on analysis means. The results of test indicated that an uniform layer ofencapsulation was formed,92.4%of the red phosphorous was encapsulated and the ignition point of red phosphorous is improved. When adding5%DERP2, the flameretardant rating of the PP reached UL94V-0and the mechanical properties improve.
