With the development of modern technology, turning and milling machining center, which is with extraordinary processing capacity and excellent performance, has become the development direction of CNC machine tools. Nowadays the advanced manufacturing technology of5-axis machining centers has entered the maturity stage, and the foreign companies manage most of the core technologies. This enlarges the difference between the domestic manufacturing industry and the overseas competitors. However, there are strong demands for advanced5-axis machining centers in the sectors such as energy, aerospace and defense in China. Therefore, the development and research of advanced CNC machines are necessary. With the core technologies, the difference between the domestic and the foreign competitors can be reduced, thus the competition of Chinese machines can be highly improved in general.Combined with the R&D task "horizontal turning and milling machining centers (2009ZX04001-072)", the thesis focuses on the core technology of the horizontal turning and milling machining center HTM40100h. Within the subject of "compound metal working machines with high speed and high precision", the task supports the national major science and technology projects "advanced CNC machines and fundamental equipments". The main contents of the thesis include:First of all, the thesis look into the overall layout of the compound turning and milling machining center. Applying the methods of3D modeling, FEA and topology calculation regarding the statics and the dynamics to the whole machine modal analysis and optimization to the key structure parts such as bed and column, the reasonable layouts of the machine and the structure of the key components are finally determined.Secondly, the development and application of the high-speed spindle and the power spindle are researched. The factors that can affect the performance of the high-speed spindle are analyzed. The thesis lists the general checking formula of the spindle, and states the assembling methods of the high-speed spindle.Thirdly, combined the R&D target with analyzing the advantage and disadvantage, the company has developed an optimum structure of B axis system. The assembling and machining methods of the main components such as three-tooth disc are summarized. Control system for compound turning and milling machining center is deeply discussed; by using control system functions the servo drives are optimized. The method and process of the optimization are further researched and tested by experiments.Testing and researching the complicated parts such as undercarriage, the compound machining methods of horizontal turning and milling machining centers are managed. Furthermore, the factors that can improve the machining efficiency and affect machining cost are testified.
