In the device of phenol-acetone production, the alkylation of benzene and propylene to synthesize isopropyl benzene can partially generate some by-product as diisopropylbenzene. Nowadays, there are mainly two methods of processing the by-product. One is the transalkylation of diisopropylbenzene and benzene to generate isopropyl benzene, the other way is to separate the three isomers of diisopropylbenzene by isomerization, especially the meta-diisopropylbenzene.The meta-diisopropylbenzene is the raw material of synthesis of resorcinol, the resorcinol is widely spread among various walks of life, and there’s a great demand for meta-diisopropylbenzene in the market, so the production of meta-diisopropyl-benzene is very good. The paper mainly research on the isomerization and transalkylation of diisopropylbenzene and benzene on the modified beta-zeolite. The zeolites are characterized by XRD^nitrogen adsorption and ammonia adsorption, And to evaluate the catalytic activity of different modified beta-zeolites by isomerization and translkylation. The results show that, all of the modification methods of the paper don’t damage the structure of zeolite. But, the disorder and order of the catalyst are decreased after alkali treating, and the activity is decreased. Simultaneously, the other modifying methods all have promoted the catalytic activity to a certain extent, and the conversion of ortho-diisopropylbenzene and para-diisopropylbenzene can reach over40%. Finally, the paper discusses about the appropriate process parameters of the isomerization and transalkylation. The results show that, the catalytic activity work well during lOOh at the temperature of190and the WSHV of lh-1, and the conversion of ortho-diisopropylbenzene can reach30%, the conversion of para-diisopropylbenzene can reach35%.
