In recent years, with the development of micro-texture technology in the field of tribology, the wear between the friction pairs and the working life of the mechanical parts are improved. It also shows great prospects for development in the field of machining. In order to improve the tool wear and surface quality and open up a new way to design tool, micro-texture technology were applied to cutting tool and the cutting mechanism were studied. The main research work includes:(1) The principle of micro-texture laser processing technology was introduced briefly. Different texture parameters of micro-texture were machined and the three-dimensional surface topography was measured with the three-dimensional profile.(2) The micro-texture parameters can influence the friction mechanism of the tool-chip region. The average shear strength is becoming smaller when the pit diameter is getting bigger. The best friction state was got when the texture depth was4um. Sv, Sz, Sha and Shv all have a notable effect on the friction coefficient.(3) The cutting force was reduced when machining45steel with YT15micro-texture tool. The main wear mechanism was diffusion wear and adhesion wear during the machining. The micro-texture tool can also reduce the diffusion wear.(4) The effect of cutting parameters on cutting mechanism was studied. Cutting temperature was one of the reasons that can influence friction state. The built-up edge was got at the middle or low cutting speed and the surface quality was improved when the feed rate increased properly.
