Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic resin, in the United Statescalled the high-performance plastics (High performanceplastics), in Japan called the superengineering plastics (SuperEng-plastics). PPS has a hardness and softness molecular structure,it is insoluble in known organic solvents under200℃and can be long-term used at hightemperatures among200-240℃. Polyphenylene sulfide has excellent heat resistance, flameretardancy, insulation and corrosion resistance, its thermal stability, mechanical strength,electrical properties and other comprehensive performance are extremely good. That is why it iswidely used in aviation, aerospace, military industry, electronics, machinery, chemical,automotive and other industries. However the low notched impact strength and brittleness ofPPS limits its application and therefore it is necessary to be modifiedPolyether sulfone (PES) is an amorphous thermoplastic polymer resin, it has excellentheat resistance, mechanical properties, insulation properties, especially its outstanding impactresistance and the advantages of continuous use at rapid temperature changes in theenvironment which can remain stable performance at high temperatures, etc. In electronics,machinery, automobile, medical and other fields PES has been widely used.Glass fiber (GF) is a kind of reinforcing material that is widely applied and the mostsignificant enhancing effect. Fiberglass chopped with its performances of lightweight, highstrength, high modulus, corrosion resistance, good electrical conductivity and shieldingperformance, higher absorbing characteristics, are mainly used in military, aerospace and otherhigh-tech fields. With the rapid economic development, Fiberglass chopped using in civilianareas are increasingly widespread. Glass fiber reinforced thermoplastics was born in the1950s.Its chemical composition are mainly SiO2, Be2O3, CaO, Al2O3and these substances play adecisive role on the properties and production of glass fiber.In this paper, we use of twin-screw extruder and three-screw extruder that have differentshear and melt processing equipments to prepare PES and PPS blends materials, the resultsshow that PES can improve the mechanical properties of PPS, especially the impact strengthand the impact strength of blends extrudering by three-screw extruder is much higher than thatextruder by twin-screw extruder. We also make use of three-screw extruder to prepare glass fiber reinforced PES and PPS blends materials, the results show that: Glass fiber can improvethe heat distortion temperature and the storage modulus of PES and PPS blends, at the meantime blends materials still have good thermal stability and a certain degree of compatibility;Tensile properties, flexural properties and impact performance have also been significantlyimproved, overall material performance mixed GF(which alien ratio is4) is more excellent;We compare the mechanical properties of PES/PPS/GF blends prepared under different shearand find that tensile and flexural properties of blends prepared by three-screw extruder werelower than that prepared by twin-screw extruder; when the mass fraction of PES is dominant,high shear strength and plasticizing effect are negative for impact strength, however, when themass fraction of PPS overwhelmingly dominant, the promotion of shear strength will helpincrease the impact strength of the blends materials which shows that materials’ performanceand processing has a close relationship.
