Polyphenylene sulfide(PPS)is a high performance crystalline polymer material with good mechanical strength,dimensional stability and electrical properties,and excellent thermal stability,flame retardancy and chemical resistance.However,PPS also has problems such as large brittleness,poor toughness,and difficulty in processing.It is often necessary to use blends or composite modifications with other materials in order to improve its overall performance and processability,and thus apply it to precision instruments,electronics,automobiles,etc.Defense,petrochemical and other fields.PPS is still the most cost-effective type of special engineering plastics.It has become the largest variety of special engineering plastics and it is also called the sixth largest engineering plastic.This article discusses a method for polyphenylene sulfide graft copolymers.And the effect of its processing and performance on polyphenylene sulfide/fiber composites.In this paper,We used Friedel-Crafts acylation reaction to make PPS-COR.Using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,elemental analysis,differential scanning calorimetry,thermogravimetry,polarization microscopy and other methods characterize its structure.We used melt extrusion process to blend PPS-COR with PPS and glass fiber(GF)or carbon fiber(CF)enhanced PPS composites.Prepared GF/PPPS-COR/PPS and CF/PPS-COR/PPS ternary composites with different fiber or graft polymer contents,using thermogravimetric analyzer,melt indexer,Haake torque rheometer,electronic universal testing machine and scanning electrons Microscopy studied the heat resistance,fluidity,mechanical properties,and surface morphology of composites.The results showed that the addition of the graft copolymer does not affect the inherent properties of the PPS/fiber composite material,but it effectively reduces the melt viscosity of the PPS/fiber composite material and improves the fluidity and processability of the composite material.After adding 9% of PPS-A to 20% GF/PPS composites,the melt index of the composites increased from 7.4g/10 min to 77.1g/10 min,the processability was significantly improved,and the mechanical properties of the composites remained well.Compared with 20% GF/PPS composites,the elastic modulus and bending modulus increased by 23.2% and 12.2%,respectively.The tensile strength and bending strength decreased by 12.8% and 25.3%,respectively,compared to 20% GF/PPS composites.But they are all higher than pure PPS.
