Traditional electroless plating is expensive using palladium as precious metalcatalytic center, also pollutes the environment, while the present research, anenvironmental friendly method of dopamine-modified on the surface was used tosolve these problems. This plating reaction method can reduce cost, simultaneouslyreduce environmental pollution on the basis of modified-polyester withoutpalladium.The method by UV radiation was used to rapidly deposit polydopamine on thesurface of PET fabric, utilizing the adsorption of polydopamine to metal ions toachieve silver activation on the surface of modified PET fabric, further electrolessnickel-plating with non-palladium to obtain flexible conductive materials. By UVradiation, the reaction time of dopamine in alkaline aqueous was shortened to lessthan30min, it can increase the rate of polymerization effectively. Meanwhile theresults of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) successfully confirmed that dopaminemolecules can form polydopamine functional thin film rapidly on the PET fabric,which was able to be used to electroless plating for the next step.After the modification of dopamine, we carried out the electroless platingreaction experiment which used silver and nickel as the catalytic center respectively,and optimized the process parameters. The nickel-plating coating of silver-activatedmodified polyester was uniform and compact; furthermore it was Ni-P alloy withlow resistivity, which used hypophosphite as reducing agent, also the grade ofcombined effect between coating and textile can reach more than4; electrolesscopper plating process of silver-activated polyester used formaldehyde as reducingagent is simple, also has good electrical conductivity effect; the surface resistance ofnickel-copper double plating which used nickel as activator was decreased significantly because of the addition of copper, at the same time the conductiveeffect can get improved.
