Bell-type furnace is mainly used for steel coil and armor plate annealing as well as rod and tube annealing, tempering and normalizing. Taking the bell-type coil annealing furnace as the object, the process of heat transfer and fluid flow in the furnace is simulated. With the development of industry, metal product variety specification has increased, requirements for heat treating is also increasing. At the same time, people put forward to higher requirements for metal products. Not only should the quality of the internal part be ensured, but also the quality of the appearance. More than that, energy conservation, efficient and safety, and easy operation are also should be taken into account for the bell-type annealing furnace. Bell-type furnace requires precise control of pressure and temperature distribution.Bell-type furnace annealing process is divided into three sub-procedures: heating, heat preservation and cooling. The project is from some electrical furnace CO.LTD. Based on the bell-type annealing furnace group, the energy equation, momentum equation, the radiative transfer equation and the transfer of components equation are taken into account. We use the finite volume method to solve the partial differential equations of heat conduction and the discrete ordinates method to solve the radiative transfer equation for numerical solution of heat transfer problems. The heating, heat preservation and cooling procedures of bell-type annealing furnace are simulated by the FLUENT commercial software, and we can finally complete the numerical simulation of the annealing process.Through the analysis and simulation above, we can establish the fluid flow and heat transfer model online further. Based on this model, and considering the actual devices, stacking status, steel sizes, we can develop an offline prediction platform for the bell-type annealing furnace. The platform is able to predict the temperature distribution of the coil, easily to judge the accurate temperatures and the locations of the cold spots and the hot spots. And finally it can help to reduce the annealing cycle, improve the thermal efficiency and the production efficiency of the annealing furnace, reduce the production costs, and then meet the production needs of the user’s.
