Plate width is an important quality indicator of metallurgical production. The online monitoring of the steel plate width in the steel rolling process is needed, in order to ensure the control quality of steel production and facilitate the width performance. In this paper, the steel plate width measure with linear array CCD image detection technology is introduced, and the non-contact dynamic width measurement of the transmission steel plate is implemented. The main work is as follows:Through analyze the principle of the measuring the width using CCD, the width measure system of hot-rolling is designed, the basic parameters of the measure system is shown in the paper.The hardware system of CCD measure equipment is designed, the way and the steps to measure the width of the steel is introduced. How to ensure the edge of the steel, the triangle measure algorithm, how to filter the output signal of the steel width, are introduced as well. The system diagram and configuration of the hardware system is built e according to the measure principle. The steel width signal is dealt with two-values, counter and other processing to get the function of the hardware.In design of the software, the interface of man-machine, finish date storage, network communication, and auto width control system are designed to realize the function of real data display, data store, data transfer, AWC and so on.By researching the factors of the CCD width measure equipment which can cause error, software filter method, temperature compensation and strip jump compensation is designed. The basic function of the width measure equipment is realized to meat the performance by designing the hardware and the software.CCD real-time detection technology on the product surface quality has been proved the production process. The advantages of the system are as follows dynamic measurements with a simple structure, non-contact, high precision, high speed, reliable performance, etc.
