| Hydroxamic acid modified polymer flocculants has been used in recent years. Because of its excellent flocculation efficiency for iron oxides, it was mainly used in the process of producing red mud sedimentation in alumina production. But the settling speed of red mud is relatively slow by using this kind of polymer, so improving its structure and enhancing its settling speed have been a research focus at home and abroad. In order to enhance the settling speed of red mud, this paper introduced the strong hydrophobic aromatic base to the hydroxamic acid polymer structure and synthesized three kind of hydroxamic acid flocculant concluding hydrophobic aromatic base. The effects of the structure of aromatic base on the settling properties of the hydroxamic acid polymer were discussed.Firstly, take acrylamide as the basic monomer, styrene,4-methylphenylene and4-ethylphenylene as the functional monomer respectively, NaHSO3-K2S2O8as initiator, P(AM-St) hydroxamic acid polymer(M1), P(AM-PMS) hydroxamic acid polymer(M1) and P(AM-PES) hydroxamic acid polymer(M3) were synthesized. And then, the polymer was modified by hydroxylamine sulfate. The concentration of initiator, the concentration and molar ratio of monomers, stirring speed, reacting temperature, time and the concentration of EDTA were all studied, and some main factors were optimized.Secondly, the products were characterized by using FT-IR, UV and color reaction of Fe3+. and its heat resistance was determined by TG.Finally, the effects of relative molecular weight, the content of hydrophobic monomer and usage of the three flocculants on the settling properties of red mud were studied. The three new polymer flocculants were contrasted with each other for their properties, and with the imported and domestic flocculants used in the manufacturing site. Settlement in the red mud, M1flocculant was better in terms of the clarity of the supernatant, but settling speed was slower. The settling speed of M3flocculant was the fastest of the three flocculants, but its performance in terms of general clarity supernatant. M2displayed better than the other two flocculants in both aspects. The results demonstrated that the settling efficiency of M2 flocculant was best, and it was better than Nalco9779flocculant and TJ flocculant. It can be used more widely. |
