Bolted flange joint being widely used in the petrochemical and nuclear industry in the form of a removable static sealing system, is capturing people’s attention about its reliability. Although foreign scientists and engineers put forward many new methods for designing flange, the widely used method in the domestic still rely on GB150which based on the standard of ASME. The gasket parameters being used in that method derived from engineering experience and not been updated greatly since1930s. Facing with the rapid development of new material and new type of gasket, there are not a standard of testing the gasket parameters. Besides, the relationship between gasket parameters and leakage rate is not shown. Therefore, the research on the testing method of gasket parameters m, y which based on the gasket leaking rate would be beneficial to the refinements of the domestic flange design method and the establishment of the standards about new sealing gasket and instructions concerning safety.By researching and describing several main foreign bolted flange joint design methods as well as the relevant gasket parameters and their test methods and consulting the domestic test methods of leakage rate, on the base of sealing mechanism, this paper put forward a program for testing the gasket parameter m and y values based on leakage rate, and complete the design and installation of its experiment device. With the leakage rate experiment data under different test conditions, this paper research the relationships between gasket parameters and leakage rate, which include m and y, and carry on curve fitting. As a result, this paper not only list the values of gasket parameters m and y under different leakage rates but also list the recommended values of gasket parameters m and y for different leakage rates in the design of bolted flange joint. Through the gasket parameters" application in the design of bolted flange joint, the comparison between the values of gasket parameters listing in this paper and the traditional values referencing GB150-2011prove that the test method of the gasket parameters m and y based on the leakage rate and the values are reasonable in this paper.
