Insoluble sulfur (IS) is an excellent rubber vulcanize. In this paper we take a deep research on improvement of preparing insoluble sulfur by molten method. First of all, the effect of sulfur raw materials on the content and stability of IS was investigated, the results show that the sulfur from Puguang gas field is the best choice to prepare IS which has the highest stability.Secondly, the extraction parameters of IS were investigated in this paper. The solubility of the sulfur in chlorobenzene had been tested firstly. It shows that the solubility of sulfur increases with growth of temperature in chlorobenzene, and up to17.8g/100g at the temperature of80℃, higher than the solubility of sulfur in1,1,1-trichloroethane/carbon dichloride solvent which has been reported as85.08%[61].Based on the results above, the parameters of chlorobenzene extraction process under balance series N=1had been researched, the results show that the best extraction condition is under the extraction temperature of80℃, the solvent ratio of10:1and the extraction time of30min, in which condition the extraction rate is98.10%, higher than the extraction rate of1,1,1-trichloroethane/carbon which is85.1%. The extraction rate of chlorobenzene extraction process which has been recycled for six times is93.4%, which is a little lower than the fresh chlorobenzene. The results show that the chlorobenzene has the excellent extraction ability, at the same time it has the nature of safety and friendly to the environment.Thirdly, the oil filling process had been researched. The results show that the best kind of oil is KN4010, and the best kind of stabilizer is hexachloro-butadiene with the additive at0.5%. The IS which has been filled with oil has the stability under120℃up to43%,4.9%higher than before, and very close to Crystex-OT20product.
