Capillary electrophoresis (CE) is the rapid development of an analytical separationtechnique, and ionic liquids attracted the attention of scientists because of its highconductivity, high solubility and environment-friendly. In recent years, ionic liquidshelp to improve the separation of chiral substances in CE. Therefore, we did thefollowing research work: On the one hand, chiral separations of metoprolol andpropranolol were studied by capillary electrophoresis,1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium-bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide (BMIMNTF2) combined with CM-β-CD were used asthe chiral selectors at first. The baseline separation was achieved for the metoprolol andpropranolol enantiomers within18min, the resolutions were achieved above1.5at theoptimal separation conditions. The method provides reference for simultaneousseparation and detection of a variety of chiral drugs. The experimental results show thatthe ionic liquid was used for the separation of chiral and non-chiral material substancehas a potential value in CE. On the other hand, chiral separations of five β-blockerswere studied by capillary electrophoresis. Firstly, Four chiral ionic liquids combinedwith Cu(II) were used as the chiral selectors.1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium-L-tartaricacid was found to have the highest enantioselectivity among four studied chiral ionicliquids. The experiments show that the chiral ionic liquids as a good chiral selector has apotential value in capillary electrophoresis. In current, the supervision and management of food safety is the state of theimportant tasks, and CE applies to the detection of the composition and content of foodadditives. Therefore, CE-UV method was used for the separation and determination ofthree preservatives (Methyl Paraben, Potassium Sorbate, Benzoate) in beverage. Underthe optimal conditions, the baseline separation of three preservatives was achievedwithin7min, the resolution of Methyl Paraben, Potassium Sorbate and Benzoate were7.78and5.29. This method was used to detect the content of preservatives in the saledbeverage, the experimental results show that the content of three preservatives inbeverage are in line with the national health standards. The method has beensuccessfully used for determination of preservatives in three kinds of beverages, and therecoveries of the preservatives were between88%-102%.
