Intellectual Capital Performance Of Chinese Commercial Bank: Based On DEA

In today's knowledge economy, as a strategic resource of enterprises, intellectual capital gradually replaced the entity capital and become the main source of value creation. Commercial banks, as knowledge-intensive enterprises, the contribution of their intellectual capital to the bank performance has bevome increasingly significant.The paper combines the theoretical analysis and empirical analysis.In theory, it defines the comcept of intellectual capital efficiency and its classification, analizes the internal and external factors that impact the intellectual capital efficiency. Then based on value creation, it constructed the evaluation system for the IC efficiency. In the empirical analysis, the paper based on a two-stage production model, uses the factor analysis and data envelopment to analize the IC capability and IC efficiency. Next, it uses the sensitivity analisis to find out the critical input and out put measures.Finally, it uses the Malmquist index to analyze the changes of the IC capability and IC efficiency from 2006 to 2009.Select the 14 listed commercial banks in China as the research object. The main coclusions drawn are as follows:First, for the 14 listed commercial banks in China, their IC capability is better than their IC efficiency.In the two stages, for the intellectual capital efficiency of the commercial banks, the highest level banks are urban commercial banks, followed by joint-stock commercial banks, large state-owned banks ate the least.Second,the inefficiency of IC capability of large state-owned banks is due to the structure capital.The managers of the large state-owned banks should pay much attention on financial innovation and structure capital development. As for the intellectual capital efficiency of the large state-owned banks, different banks have different key factors, it specific conditions.Third,the trend of the Malmquist index of the intellectual capital efficency is rising in their entirety.From 2006 to 2007, most of the Chinese commercial banks' intellectual efficiency decline.From 2007 to 2009, most of the commercial banks'intellectual efficiency increase.During the four years, the commercial bank managers pay more and more attention to the accumulation of intellectual capital.The intellectual capital management level is also rising.
