Construction industry is an important sector of national economy, but it is also a typical industry which consumes a lot of materials and energy. Thus in the development process of construction industry, there are two simultaneous challenges, to enhance its competitiveness and to improve its sustainable level.However, at present, most studies only focus on competitiveness or sustainable development of construction industry, but few take both into consideration.Under such circumstances, this paper summarizes recent related researches home and abroad, analyzes their advantages and disadvantages.Then, this paper defines the comparison analysis of sustainable competitiveness of construction industry as the research issue after reviewing related sustainable development theory, competitive advantage theory, and regional economic development theory. Based on the theories above, an index system for comparative analysis of sustainable competitiveness of construction industry is established, which provides a base and framework for measurement of sustainable competitiveness of construction industry.After comparison of usual analysis methods, principal component analysis and weighted grey relational analysis are selected for this research. Compared with real regional gap on general development and former research, results of principal component analysis prove effective. Weighted grey relational analysis can be implicated when fewer objects are available, and Spearman coefficient is used to analyze its effectiveness.Both development gap and sustainable restrains are systematically taken into consideration in this paper, which is conductive to the enhancement of competitive as well as improvement of sustainable level of construction industry at the same time. The index system established in this paper can act as a base for measurement of sustainable competitiveness of construction industry, which can also be referenced for related studies.Aiming at objective comparison, results induced by principal component analysis and weighted grey relational analysis can be used as reference in decision making.
