A Study On Shanghai White-collar Women's Leisure Behavior

As an emerging middle class, Shanghai white-collar women play an important role in both social and economic development of Shanghai. With their social status upgrading, Shanghai white-collar women have more opportunities to participate in various social leisure activities. Meanwhile, the satisfactory leisure life inserts the positive impact on for white-collar women's health and work performance. Shanghai white-collar women, a special group, was taken as the research subject of this paper which studied Shanghai white-collar women's leisure behavior by combining the empirical research with data analysis. The main contents of this paper were demonstrated specifically from the following aspects:In the first part, it mainly introduced the research background, purpose and meaning of the research, literature review of home and abroad, differentiation and analysis of concepts and the sample profiles. In the second part, it presented the main theories used in this paper. They are leisure study and sociology. In the third part, the characteristics of Shanghai white-collar women's leisure behavior were examined based on the research by distributing questionnaires and conducting interviews. The main contents included: Shanghai white-collar women had comparative shortage of leisure time per day; the satisfaction with the amount of leisure time was not high; leisure activities at home were more characterized by media-based activities than self-entertainment; leisure activities outside the home were more characterized by relaxing and entertainment activities than exciting ones or for a sense of accomplishment; the main leisure motivation was to relax and entertain themselves; leisure partners were the ones from all walks of the life. In the fourth part, different leisure constraints on Shanghai white-collar women were analyzed by the correlation analysis. They are the structural constraints, intrapersonal constraints, interpersonal constraints and socio-cultural constraints which presented the relative importance of leisure constraints on the different groups of Shanghai white-collar women. The features of white-collar women's leisure constraints as well as the factors of these features forming were analyzed in depth. In the fifth part, in terms of the above leisure constraints, quite a few measures were put forward to enhance the quality of Shanghai white-collar women's leisure life.
