A Study On The Leisure Behavior Of Shanghai Foreign Residents

As the statistics show, the number of Shanghai foreign residents has reached 160,000 till 2006. With the coming of 2010 Shanghai World Expo, it is estimated that 70 million foreign visitors will visit and stay in Shanghai. This signals that more and more foreign visitors will come and stay here as the resident in the upcoming years. Due to the cultural difference between the regions, the life of those foreign residents is not only exciting but also worried. Some of them go back to their motherland ahead of due time because of being overburdened by the different social-cultural environment. This is a great pressure to their enterprises and not good for the internationalization of Shanghai. Leisure, as the brand-new state of the modern life, lays a solid foundation for the perfect of psychology, development of personal interest and strengthening of physical well-being of every human being. What's more, it can inject the foreign residents with psychological and physical happiness so as to relieve the anxiety from the regional cultural differece.From the angle of regional culture's influence on the individual behavior, the thesis, applying the theories of the Behavior Geography and the Trans-Culture Behavior, makes a empirical research on the leisure behavior of Shanghai foreign residents. The first part serves as an introduction for the research purpose and significance, definition of the key word and the basic information about the survey; the second part elaborates on the theories used in this thesis; the third part is the detailed analysis of the leisure behaviors of Shanghai foreign residents, based on the two tables and sixteen graphics made out of the statistics of 725 questionnaires, which clearly dipicts the features of time and space of leisure behaviors of Shanghai foreign residents during the week days, the leisure behaviors of week days and weekends, the relationship between the identity and the outdoor leisure frequency of the week, the relationship between the income and leisure expense, the source of their leisure information, the relationship between the leisure purpose,the gender and the identity, the obstacle of their leisure behaviors. The thesis also makes a thorough analysis on the inside and outside influential elements for their leisure behaviors. The fourth part puts forward with the inspiration from the third part from the angle of the government ( The leisure infrastructure of Shanghai should be perfected; the management of leisure information should be strengthened; the people's inner quality should be promoted; the category of the leisure product should be diversified. ),the Shanghai foreign residents ( the leisure expectation should be moderately lowered; the structure of the leisure companion should be adjusted; the active consciousness of leisure should be promoted. ),the transnational enterprises ( the cross-culture training should be paid more attention; the foreign female residents should be given more social support; the acculturation has four periods. ) The fifth part gives advice on how to build a harmonious leisure environment based on the fourth part. The sixth part is the thesis's creativity,inadequate points and the outlook.It is a sincere wish to eliminate or reduce the influence of the regional cultural difference, strengthen the communication and cooperation of different cultures and finally promote the international metropolis image of Shanghai.
