Xuzhuang substation has been put in use since 1998, which is Langfang region's earliest 110 kv substation. The early Sifang microcomputer protection device has been used for more than 10 years, which needs to be protected and modificated.Based on the management of safety,organization progress and quality in project management, the paper describes the Xuzhuang substation's protection and modification process, mainly taking the main transformer reform as an example to discuss. Before the project, its security objectives are firstly established, according to which the danger point and corresponding preventive measures are expected. Secondly the organization and management of renovation project is discussed, and the construction plan, personnel scheme, investment management are deeply studied, and come to the conclusion that with the same team workers, blackout days is not more long more good. In project schedule management, schedule planning target is established, according to which the progress control measures are made, meanwhile the reform progress acquisition and analysis system are also established, at last projects' schedule control is completed through the conclusion from the analysis system. In terms of quality management, we set a quality objectives of the transformation project. In order to realize the quality objectives, before during and afterwards control of the whole construction process are improved, and the personnel, materials, and instruments is guaranteed. Finally the transformation process is summarized, and higher request for the future protection and modification project management is put forward.Project management is reasonably used to analyse the whole Xuzhuang substation's protection and modification process, finishing the task effectively in the planning period, reducing the load loss and safety risk, and providing management basis for the future protection and modification work.
