The Research On Carbon Information Disclosure About Listed Companies In China

This paper attempts to study corporate carbon information disclosure with the Global climate change and the main purpose of it is to provide theoretical basis for businesses to disclose carbon information better, and reduce GHGs emission.Four questions are studied in this paper: the motivation of company carbon information disclosure, the carbon disclosure frameworks developed by several international organizations, carbon disclosure conditions of listed companies in China and fundamental reasons restraining Chinese enterprises to disclose carbon emission information, countermeasures to improve the information disclosure of listed companies.Major results of this paper show that:(1) the research of carbon information disclosure has only just started, and research results are poor and most of which mainly introduce foreign experience. This paper discusses the carbon information disclosure situation in our country in two areas: the carbon information disclosure standard, the carbon information disclosure application. (2) By comparison, a complete framework should include the following: climate change strategy; GHGs emissions and emission reduction information; Climate change risks and opportunities, etc.(3) the carbon information disclosure standard is not perfect and the application is still in the initial stage,the carbon disclosure situation of Listed Companies in China in general is far from optimistic and have many problems. The reasons include the following: the lack of relevant laws and regulations system; the lack of carbon information disclosure framework; lack of demand of carbon information.(4)the paper put forward measures based on the above analysis, such as improving the legal system of carbon information disclosure; construction carbon information disclosure framework; developing carbon information needs; promoting academic research of carbon information disclosure.This paper is innovative in the following aspects:First, this paper compares the carbon disclosure frameworks developed by some international organizations, and summarizes the contents that should include in a complete carbon information disclosure framework;Second, the paper studies China's listed companies carbon information disclosure situation using empirical research and summarizes the characters, the questions and causes about companies carbon information disclosure;Thirdly, this paper also points out suggestive ideas, i.e. national legislation as regulation, carbon information disclosure framework as basis, carbon information demands as driving force.
