A key employee, an enterprise important strategic resource, is the owner of enterprise critical knowledge and skills, the main creator of enterprise value, also the core competitiveness of an enterprise. Usually, they play an irreplaceable role in the survival and development of an enterprise, especially for some small and medium-scale enterprises. Because of some issues involved in small and medium-scale enterprises, such as scale, benefits, management skill and so on, the loss of key employees is very common. Such kind of loss will directly not only lead to the loss of some business and technical secrets but also break the balance of the existing human resources, which will affect its ordinary operation and management, or even threaten the survival. How to solve the problem and reduce the negative impact is an important issue to be solved.From the perspective of human resources management, the thesis will carry out the research on the basis of case study, the loss of key employees of YD Company, using the methods of theoretical analysis and empirical research. On the background of some key factors like the definition of a key employee, features, reasons of loss and the impact, we will make a deep analysis on development environment, concrete condition and some root causes of YD Company in order to find out what the key problems are and put forward six measures, such as creating a good company image, career planning of employees, building up the scientific staff mobility and its talent pool, strengthening the management and establishing strategic cooperative relations with the employees who has not worked in YD Company.Eventually, we wish our research could let some enterprise managers pay more attention on the issues and provide some useful management experiences for other enterprises.
