A Study On The Industrial Transformation Of Dongguan In The Context Of International Financial Crisis

Dongguan has developed into a well-known manufacturing industrial city from a traditional agricultural county for the past 30 years'reform and opening-up, which made the Dongguan Pattern very famous. The Dongguan Pattern is such a factor combination model that Dongguan offers land and the probably already finished standard factory buildings, the Mainland supplies cheap labor force and the foreign investors provide funds, equipment, technique and management. Most of its products are exported to the foreign market. This kind of development pattern has made a great contribution to the rapid development of economy in Dongguan, but with the economic growth, the disadvantages of this pattern become more and more serious, such as high input, high consumption, high pollution and low efficiency. So far, the development potential of the traditional Dongguan Pattern has been on the edge of extremes. It's now facing so many problems as the extensive economic growth mode has been restricted by factor supply, the low-side industrial structure has confined its competitiveness and its over-reliance on overseas investment and import and export has a bad influence on its economic stability. The breakout and spread of American financial crisis in August, 2007 has made the problems of Dongguan Pattern severer and struck a hard blow at its economic development. By using the method of combining normative analysis and positive analysis, this thesis aims to study the measures of the economic structural transformation in Dongguan against the financial crisis background from the angle of regional economics. It firstly introduces the formation courses and the developing situation of Dongguan Pattern, and then summarizes its features and operational mechanism through positive analysis; then it analyzes the main problems existed in Dongguan and the impact of the financial crisis making on Dongguan; lastly it puts forward the recent counter plans and the medium and long-term measures for Dongguan's industrial transformation according to the present problems that Dongguan is facing and Dongguan's own economic development characters.
