For Hainan province, agriculture plays an important role in its economy, arable land and its reserve resources are relatively insufficient. Nowadays, with the fast growth of population and the continuous development of social economy, the configuration of population, resources, land and environment has become a problem drawing Hainan government's attention. The arable land resource has a great influence to the development of agricultural production and the whole economy of Hainan, even related to the sustainable development of the whole social economy directly. So, rational exploitation and protection of arable land are the basis of the sustainable development of agriculture. It is important to figure out the quality, quantity and spatial distribution of arable land in Hainan province. Therefore, this dissertation uses modern theory and method of arable land resource management, intergrates knowledge of GIS technology, according to the data of the second general survey soil, replenish mass data for database through investigating on the spot, has established Ding'an county's arable land resources database with 1:50000 scale. On the base of these databases, we has carried out applied study for evaluation of arable land productivity and distribution of soil nutrients, created a series of special map.The following research tasks have been mainly completed:(1) The arable land resource database of Ding'an county in Hainan province was established. Collecting various spacial data and attributive data, choose ArcGIS, R2V, Access, CLRMIS, Photoshop and Excel as basic software, coding data is imported to the database. It united spacial database and attributive database into one body with keyword field, realized the mutual searches of both, carried out applied study to offer foundation data, for evaluation of arable land productivity, distribution of soil nutrients, and created a series of special map.(2) The spacial distribution of soil nutrients of Ding'an county in Hainan province was studied. Utilizing GIS and Geostatistical analysis technology to exploringly analyse spacial data for 145 samples collected, the result showed the organic matter, the total nitrogen, the available phosphorus, the available potassium of soil samples existed spacial autocorrelation, then exporting the spacial distribution...
